Great Salt Lake July 6th, 2019

Saltier than the sea, and the largest lake in the United States (apart from the Great Lakes), the Great Salt Lake is home to Utah's most densely populated regions and a wide range of shrimp and birds as well. Because the pilot density is so significant as well, I had naively assumed that the flying must be great and that this portion of Utah would be so straightforward I could just fall asleep. Boy was I wrong! Though it may be different during other times of year, the mountains east of the Salt Lake and Provo Lake due south gave me a real run for my money. Likely due to a significant sea-breeze effect stabilizing the afternoon thermals, the climbs were weak and seldom rose more than one or two hundred meters above a given trigger.
