As I reached the Canadian border, with still over 1000 m of elevation to burn, I was overcome by both a sense of relief and an overwhelming amount of sorrow. These units of altitude I had fought so hard for, not just on this flight, but on all 68 that came before it, each a separate mini-dream within the scope of something so great. Now, there's no more distance to spend them on, no more critical choices to make, no more risk, no more reward, just a memory already beginning to fade, a step forward in this great metamorphosis of life.
