'Black Rock' in French, this outstanding feature rests just 5 km west of Jasper town and can be accessed by flight from The Whistlers mountain or by a trailhead, where the Yellow Head Highway meets the valley to its east. The French naming is consistent throughout the valley heading west over the great divide to Tete Jaune Cache ('Hidden Yellow Head') hinting at the cultural history of this remote, mineral rich region of the Canadian Rockies.
